# Participant Code of Conduct

**Participant Code of Conduct**



### Image Pathway

The University of Maryland is committed to fostering safe, inclusive, and respectful events and programs. All external participants in University of Maryland programs and activities, whether in person or through digital platforms, including those hosted by the University of Maryland College Park Foundation and the University of Maryland College Park Alumni Association, are expected to:

- Treat others with respect and consideration.
- Follow all venue and event rules.
- Alert event staff to violations of this Code of Conduct, unsafe situations or participants in distress.




## Unacceptable Behavior


<span>Unacceptable conduct includes, but is not limited to:</span>

- <span>Discrimination or harassment under university policy.</span>
- <span>Disruptive, disorderly, unsafe, inappropriate or disrespectful conduct, including, but not limited to:</span>
    - <span>Making threats or otherwise engaging in threatening or intimidating conduct</span>
    - <span>Yelling at or berating a staff member</span>
    - <span>Using obscene, profane or humiliating language in communications</span>
    - <span>Repeatedly posting inappropriate or unrelated personal content in official university platforms (e.g., alumni directories)</span>
    - <span>Repeatedly sending aggressive, hostile or inflammatory messages</span>
    - <span>Conduct that is out of place in a professional setting</span>
- <span>Excessive alcohol use that causes a public disturbance or endangers others. </span>
- <span>Conduct that otherwise violates university policy or law.</span>


## Consequences of Unacceptable Conduct


<span>Unacceptable conduct will not be tolerated at University of Maryland-sponsored events or related activities and may result in:</span>

- <span>Immediate removal from the event or program without warning or refund.</span>
- <span>Prohibition from participating in future University programs, in person or online.</span>
- <span>Removal from University communication lists.</span>
- <span>Referral to other appropriate University offices.</span>
- <span>Arrest or prosecution when conduct is prohibited by criminal law.</span>


## Social Media Comment Policy


We encourage you to share your comments and ideas with us and fellow Terps through our social media channels. We value and respect diverse viewpoints and welcome productive dialogue within our community. However, comments created on our platforms by other users and not by the university do not reflect the opinions or views of the University of Maryland. Furthermore, we retain the discretion to remove comments for any lawful reason, including but not limited to comments that:

- Contain discriminatory, obscene, threatening, violent, harassing, defamatory, or otherwise unlawful language, images, video or content;
- Share disinformation with intent to harm;
- Violate intellectual property rights;
- Contain commercial endorsements or advertisements or are considered "spam" —repeated posting of identical or very similar content; or
- Disclose confidential information or personally identifiable information, such as an email address, home address or phone number for yourself or others

Our social media pages are not monitored 24/7. If you have an emergency, please contact the appropriate authorities.
